Advancing Community at Moloka’i High School in Kaunakakai
As part of Moloka’i Physical Therapy, I participated in a group presentation to the junior senior class at Moloka’i High School’s Health Sciences Academy in Kaunakakai. Being able to share my experiences and provide information for students interested in healthcare was a valuable learning experience. I most enjoyed sharing my nontraditional background and providing answers to student questions about work-life balance while in school. This presentation parallels the state of Hawaii Is rural health initiative to encourage local students to enter healthcare professions in order to better serve the community.
After this initial presentation, we continued to interact with students in the Health Sciences Academy in order to foster relationships and provide a safe space for them to ask questions about their intended careers. One of the most rewarding parts of this experience was being able to share the positive impacts I have been able to see with patients and reinforce their belief in their own self-efficacy.
